After so many years of efforts to fight poverty through programmes and policies, the results obtained appear unsatisfactory and poverty continues to make daily news in Africa. It is tempting to say that the fight against poverty is a pointless struggle. But human history is rich in the experiences of individuals, families and societies that have overcome their poverty and have become wealthy today. These valiantly lived experiences are the collective memory that will guide our efforts. It can be said that, after all, combating poverty means controlling behaviour, needs, economic structures, not on an ad hoc basis, but on an ongoing basis, in time and space. The European Union has a very important role to play. It is in this spirit that DedeFund is more effectively engaged in improving the lives of poor and vulnerable, marginalized and oppressed populations in Africa and elsewhere in the world.
